Six-year-old beautifully explains facts of divorce to mom

At six years old, she understands as well as anyone ever will the importance of civility between divorced parents. In a heart-warming viral video, the little girl patiently, clearly, lovingly explains to her mom that life will be better for everyone when the adults get their emotions under control.

Tiana is like so many other children whose Hamilton parents have parted ways. She wants stability and love in her life. “I just want everything to be settled down, nothing else,” she says. “I just want everything to be good as possible, nothing else.”

If wanting everything to be as good as possible sounds like a too-lofty goal, listen to Tiana. She knows that setting reasonable expectations is a crucial part of making family relationships workable, even in divorce.

“Try not to be that high up to be friends. I want everything to be low,” Tiana says of expectations and tension levels between her parents.

The little girl is practicing what she preaches, too. She says her own love is steady, straight and “…on the middle, where my heart is. My heart is something. Everyone else’s heart is something too.”

We could go on and on with the wisdom of the adorable Tiana, but you can watch, listen and learn for yourself.
