How can military parents handle custody?

Parents in Ohio who are getting a divorce already have to deal with matters of child custody. Unfortunately, one or both parents being members of the military can make this situation even more complicated. We at the Law Office of Kristen L. Campbell, LLC, are here today to discuss how custody situations can be arranged with parents in the military.

Of course, if you're in the military, it's important to get relocation provisions. Being an active duty service member is one of the valid reasons for moving after a divorce while keeping child custody or visitation privileges. However, there are some situations in which you may be moving too far away or to too dangerous a location to make actual in-person visits.

In these cases, you may need to get creative with your visitation schedule. In some situations, parents decide to divide their time up differently. Rather than switching off on weekends or weekdays, parents may be able to host their child over the summer, during the school year, or on special holidays.

Of course, technology provides plenty of tools to keep in contact even if physical visitation is impossible. Skype and other video conference tools have become very popular over the years as a means of being able to visit with a child when far away.

Are you part of a couple that's getting divorce where one or even both of you are an active member of the military? If so, consider taking a look at our web page on military divorce, linked here. You can learn more about how to make custody situations work for your unique case.
